[Scene of the Week] The Opening Scene of 2004 Remake 'Dawn of the Dead'

for this week of Scene of the Week I found an absolute clinker of an opening, for both horror and remake standards alike. Just recently I had purchased the infamous 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, a movie that is way better than it had any right to be, and I somehow always seem to forget just how brilliant and effective that opening chase scene really is.

Aside from a few establishing shots and a quick moment for us to get to know Ana and the neighbourhood around her, we are quickly (and I mean quickly) engulfed in blood, chaos and carnage. This opening sets the tone of the Synder's flick perfectly, hitting us with some taut and terrifying zombie action, immediately presenting itself as a whole different beast from its 1978 classic. It's lean its mean and it's ferocious; welcome to one of the best horror remakes of the past 20 years. Don't believe me? Here's the opening to prove it.

Game of Death Review

VERDICT  Dancing to the wacky beat of its own drum; Game of Death is a bloodied and bonkers ride pumped full of eccentric violence and modern flare. If you like your satire served extra black with a side order of carnage then look no further - this is one game you'll be dying to play.
